Mass Media

Got an interview with the Echo, the Interlock magazine, announced the event on Essex Radio and BBC Radio Essex. Wouldn't it just be awesome if I could get a plane to fly across South Essex with a big banner advertising the event - dream on! I think I have done well anyway.
When I did the radio announcements I suddenly heard my voice turn into Tony Blackburn's when I said "Come down and hug those tree's you tree hugging hippies!" It made the presenters laugh anyway.
The BBC Radio Essex presenter asked me if I was a hippie and I said "Well I don't smoke anything dodgy, and I don't believe in Free Love. But I do believe in Peace and looking after our environment."
The Essex Radio guy asked me if I would be dressing up in tie-dye clothes, I said no, but would certainly be dressing like a hippie. Then he asked me if I expected everyone else to dress like hippies, and I said "It's not necessary - but hey why not."
So if you feel daring why don't you join me and wear hippie clothes - are you game for a laugh?

........................................................................................

Although I was highly impressed with myself at putting on the 'Vision On' music I got bored with that, then I came across this exciting song by Alison Moyet that was very big in my youth - oh so long ago! Yes it's 'Don't Go'. Has this got any deep significant meaning? Well not intentionally but it could mean I'm hanging on to the green spaces.

Rob Baker

A big thanks to Rob Baker the Area Officer for Basildon Parks for all his good will and assistance in helping our events run by supplying us with the gazebo where we are going to do our workshops. Thanks Rob!

Updated Event's Menu

I thought I'd show you this as there has been a couple of changes like: Lisa is now doing
a Hippie Art Day as well as it being Hug a Tree Day. Also it's a bit iffy if my cousin will or will not
be coming down on the Headless Ghost Tour even though she is a fantastic actress and should
be rubbing shoulders with Dame Judy Dench - she is an extremely busy person, I just hope she can make it. This is why I have approached the Youth Council who seem pretty keen to get involved. The eventual Headless Ghost Tour sounds very promising.

Luminous Green ArtCafé Event's Menu

I decided that the Event's Menu was far too conservative and needed to be jazzed up a bit. Luminous green was the answer for me.

I laminated the old style menu's and Sarah okayed them to be used in the Café, so now they are free standing menu's that people can use to ponder over their food and drink choices.

That laminator came in pretty handy!

ArtCafé Event's Menu - Not

I have spent the last two days creating and printing the ArtCafé Event's Menu, I have printed about 170 now. I would normally show you but my scanner is misbehaving terribly, either it scans black and white or changes the colours. My orange and green and white leaflets become pink and turquoise and white.
So you will have to sit and wonder what they look like until you've seen one.... I'm sure you've better things to do.
I've got all the events listed plus Sarah's café menu too. Not forgetting 'Sponsored by START http://www.supportthroughart.com/ of course.

Welcome All Junior Artists

Hi there,

If you have been given this leaflet in your book-bag and are wondering how you're going to paint or draw your family or yourself you really have lots of choice. You could simply draw or paint. Why not try collage, just cutting out lots of different coloured paper and using it imaginatively. There is always good old felt tips or crayons. Whatever you do have fun! I'll look forward to seeing your art in the next few weeks.

By the way I didn't put on the leaflet that I would prefer the picture to be on A4 paper, I'm just thinking if I get a lot of entries I want to be able to fit them all on Sarah's wall at Northland Park cafe. So it would really helpful if you could do this. Thanks

Advertising and what not

This morning I got up early to guillotine the Art Competition adverts, putting them in sets of 30 ready for the schools on Monday.

I got thinking about advertising for the Workshops.
I thought how about a cafe menu, advertising the workshops first, then Sarah's Menu (in slightly more brief form), I think people who don't normally come the cafe will be pleasantly surprised by what they have to offer. Obviously they would be available in the Cafe but I would have to seek other places to put them - perhaps the local shops, libraries and Northlands Centre.
I think I would like to have a scene with the parks ducks at the front of the menu as Sarah has them in the cafe (photographs of them of course!) and they are very endearing creatures. Plus in the menu some illustration by me.
I've got a slight bit more time to think about the design so shall play around with some ideas.

The Art Competition Leaflet

I made a simple flyer, brought it to Tony Guyon who approved it and said he would print out all the flyers for me, making them A5. (I had to literally think on my feet as I suddenly realised that there was probably an exact month left for the children to make their pictures).

Next step approaching the schools, both schools approved!
So I am picking up all the leaflets tomorrow, cutting them over the weekend and will be delivering them to the schools on Monday morning. Luckily I have recently bought a page cutter.
Click on the picture to see it enlarged.
Oh by the way 'The Events' they are now updated, just click on the left hand corner where it says 'CLICK HERE TO SEE THE EVENTS' to get there quicker, or scroll down.

A big THANKYOU to Tony Guyon and Interlock for printing all those flyers for the schools.

PUBLICITY

I aim to largely publicise these events at the Northlands Park Fun Day. A competition for children at Primary school to draw a self portrait - or draw themselves and their family - i.e Thinking about their identity.
A4 size paper only, painting or pencil to be sent to me by a specified date. The winner of the Infant group can win £25 in Hobbycraft vouchers, and the winner of the Junior group will also win £25 in Hobbycraft vouchers. This will be announced at the Fun Day.
They will all be winners in a way as all the paintings will be displayed on the cafe's wall.
We will also do face painting the whole day plus alot an hour to two hour examples of the events and workshops e.g an hour of Speakers Corner, a couple of hours of Animation making, two hours of Puppet Workshop and two hours of Mask Making.
Tony Guyon has chosen to give us the Marquee for free and will pay for the face painting - but the money from the face painting will go to the Events Group.
I AM LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WHO HAS EXPERIENCE IN FACE PAINTING AND LOTS OF COMMON SENSE. Teach me and I will help, I'm very artistic and know I can do it, this way you can get breaks. This ones resolved as Lisa has lot's of common sense and is going to be the face-painter, plus Charlie is going to ask his sister too. Lisa said she will teach me, so that I can give Lisa (them) breaks.
N.B Approach schools and artists for judging. - Lisa and Fran are going to be the judges.

Sylaks Poster

Sylak is doing his own version of this poster to make our own poster advertising that we are inviting artists to meet at the art cafe every 1st Sunday at noon. Apparently lots of people are interested.
We discussed that it would be good to show each other our art and get talking forming ideas to what sort of things we could do as a 'bohemian art group.' Bless his enthusiasm.

Sylak has lots of ideas for a bohemian society - even if it's one that meets at the cafe once a month. I'm glad I've got an enthusiastic resident. * Sylaks dreams:I envisage the Café as a relaxed atmosphere for spiritual fulfillment / rather than financial gain. (on further conversations about the artists Café).
